ANS and CEA hold Addiction Prevention Workshop

In an effort to raise awareness on addiction prevention, ANS invited members of the Centro de Especialidades en Adicciones (CEA) to hold workshops for parents and 6-12th grade students per grade level. This event, held over two days, provided age-appropriate workshops for the different grade levels.
Parents were invited to a presentation by CEA’s Executive Director Javier Ley, presentation covering various topics on the development of addiction and its impact in young adults was presented. Additional topics covered were:
  • Positive qualities in children
  • Communicating with your children
  • Addiction as a brain disease
  • Risk factors
  • Drugs and adolescence
  • Warning signs to watch out for
  • Personal testimony from a person recovered from addiction
The student’s presentations (Grades 6-12) also attended workshops per grade level. The topics covered with students were:
  • Life choices and alternatives
  • Communicating with your parents
  • Addiction as a brain disease
  • Risk factors
  • Drugs and adolescence
  • Personal testimony from a person recovered from addiction

Middle School Principal, Mr. Preston Emerton expressed, “This was one of the most moving educational sessions I have been to in a long time.  It was evident that our students learned from this experience and my hope is that our community will rally together to support our children in a positive way.”
