About Us

This is Ans

Welcome to the American Nicaraguan School (ANS), a prestigious, non-profit, coeducational institution established in 1944. At ANS, we celebrate diversity with a vibrant student body representing over 30 nationalities, all united in their pursuit of knowledge through our comprehensive American curriculum, taught exclusively in English.

Our Governance: Reflecting Our Community’s Voice

ANS thrives under the leadership of a seven-member Board of Directors, primarily elected by our parent community and supplemented by a U.S. Embassy appointee. This governance structure embodies our commitment to inclusivity and accountability, guiding us to provide an unparalleled educational journey.

Our Mission

The mission of the American Nicaraguan School is to provide an innovative and dynamic education so that our students realize their full leadership potential, achieve academic excellence, and make meaningful and ethical contributions to a global society.

Our Vision

We define learning as the agency to honor your curiosity and engage in the rigor of authentic and complex problems, working together to find solutions in an inclusive and collaborative community. We believe that when we have agency and rigor, our learning transcends time and space, taking us out into a future we create together.

The Foundation of Our Educational Philosophy

At ANS, the essence of our learning community is anchored in six foundational Core Values. These values transcend beyond the confines of traditional learning; they are enduring principles that students carry with them long after their classes end. More than just academic lessons, these values are life lessons, ingrained in our students’ understanding and shaping their journey as ethical leaders in a global society.

A Campus Evolving Towards Modern Excellence

Located in the dynamic city of Managua, Nicaragua, our 26-acre campus is on a transformative journey to embody modern educational excellence. Alongside our ongoing infrastructure enhancements, the campus currently features expansive sports fields, a swimming pool, and a well-resourced library with over 28,000 volumes. Accredited by Cognia and the Nicaraguan Ministry of Education, ANS is dedicated to achieving academic excellence and fostering innovative learning environments.

Our Approach: Dynamic, Innovative, Value-Driven

ANS offers a dynamic U.S. standards-based curriculum, interwoven with our six Core Values. From engaging early learning in our Primary School (Pathways for three- and four-year-olds to Grade 5) to the diverse challenges in our Secondary School (Grades 6-12), we provide a comprehensive educational journey for every child.

Embracing Bilingual Excellence

While English is our primary instructional language, we emphasize Spanish language development from Kindergarten, fostering essential bilingual skills. Our curriculum also includes French and Chinese, preparing our students for global interactions and broadening their linguistic horizons.

Beyond the Curriculum: Enriching Academic Horizons

Secondary students at ANS have the unique opportunity to pursue both the Nicaraguan national diploma and the U.S. diploma. Our curriculum is enriched with a wide array of Advanced Placement (AP) courses and a senior year Capstone Project, thoughtfully designed to promote academic excellence and personal development.

Innovation for the Future

The recent renovation of our Science and Innovation Center, initiated in July 2023, showcases our dedication to creativity and scientific inquiry. This project reflects our forward-thinking vision, equipping students with the tools to shape the future.

Join Our Community of Aspiring Tigers

At ANS, each day offers opportunities to excel, explore, and evolve. We invite you to join this transformative educational journey, where we nurture students to reach their fullest potential.
